Quentin Poling to wear 51, a look at the history of that number
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have given rookie linebacker Quentin Poling the number 51. It’s a number that has a lot of recent history.
Poling was drafted by the Dolphins in the 7th round and is no guarantee to make the roster in 2018. He will need to show his stuff on special teams but he has the tools to offer solid depth if he can adjust to the NFL.
Poling was given 51 on Thursday when he reported to the Dolphins rookie camp. Here is a look at the players who have worn 51 in Dolphins history.
Mike Pouncey – 2011 – 2017
Pouncey spent time at center and guard during his career in Miam but he was released in March after opting to not accept a reduced salary by the Dolphins. Pouncey will be remembered as one of the better centers in Dolphins history but his career was plagued by injuries and he completed only two full seasons thus far in his NFL career.
Bryan Cox – 1991 -1995
There are a lot of things that stand out when you think of Bryan Cox. Most of the time it is his two finger salute to the Buffalo Bills fans at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. Cox was brash and mouthy, much like Joey Porter was. On the field he was a tough hitter and fans loved his tenacious attitude. His career lasted five seasons with the Dolphins.

During those five seasons, Cox make the Pro-Bowl three times. He would play seven more seasons after leaving the Dolphins but his best seasons were in Miami.
Rusty Chambers – 1976 – 1980
When he played, he was a solid linebacker who provided good depth to the Dolphins defense. He recorded two interceptions and five fumble recoveries in his Dolphins career. Sadly, Chambers career was cut short when he was killed in a car accident in 1981.
