Ryan Tannehill and Danny Amendola connected quite a bit in Miami’s first day of practice in training camp.

Football season is officially back as the Miami Dolphins kicked off their 2018 training camp with this morning’s practice. One of the big questions heading into this season is which receiver is Ryan Tannehill likely to lean on after the team traded away Jarvis Landry? Well, if day one of training camp is any indication, we may already have our answer.

Landry had been Miami’s leading receiver for the past four years, and the guy Tannehill (and Jay Cutler) leaned heavily on to make a play. So after he was traded it left a gaping hole in the Dolphins receiving corps. That is, until the Dolphins went out and signed a pair of free agents in Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson.

Both solid veterans in their own rights, Amendola and Wilson were brought in to man the slot position previously vacated with the loss of Landry. The additions, along with Miami’s other receivers left on the team, still make for a solid group. The Dolphins have depth at the position, but there doesn’t appear to be a clear-cut #1 on paper. In Miami’s first training camp practice, however, Tannehill connected with Amendola quite frequently.

There was some question as to who would get the start between Amendola and Wilson. For day one, at least, it was Amendola, which should surprise no one. Amendola comes from the winningest program in the 21st century. He’s been a very local leader since his arrival, striving for perfection from his teammates, and himself.

Tannehill has taken an early liking to Amendola, and it showed in morning practice as the two connected on many passes throughout.

That last tweet from Armando Salguero should be telling as we move forward. It’s important to note that Wilson ran with the second team offense today, and received a lot of attention from backup QB David Fales. The Dolphins will mix a variety of options, and get everyone involved with each other as training camp goes on, but it’s a good start to see the first team offense come out pretty strong on day one.
