We will continue our Madden season this week by simulating this weekend’s matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets.

Week 2 is on the horizon and it is now time to continue our weekly look at how the Miami Dolphins fare against each week’s opponent in Madden 2019. This week, the virtual Dolphins take on the virtual Jets in New York.

As was the case last week, I will simulate the game with 15 minute quarters, allowing the game to stop every quarter so I can break down how the team is faring so far.

After the game ends, I will provide my own prediction for this week’s matchup and see how they both stack up against the live game on Sunday.

For the record, I had to switch Sam Darnold to be the starter of the team, as he was still listed as a back up.

Week 2 is underway!

1st Quarter

The Jets received the opening kickoff, taking the touchback to start the game. The Jets weren’t able to do much on their first possession, leading to a punt that pinned Miami back on their own 1 yard line. Miami was able to get a first down, but they didn’t do much after, punting themselves.

On their second possession, Darnold and the offense were able to execute a decent drive setting them up for a long field goal but their kick was blocked! Miami took over and moved methodically down the field putting them in position for Jason Sanders to kick his first field goal of the day which wrapped up the first quarter.

Neither team was really able to move the ball. Neither quarterback was overly effective, as both relied on their running games to move down the field (something I see happening on Sunday, as well). Darnold ended with 44 yards through the air and Tannehill.

At the end of the first: Miami 3, New York 0

2nd Quarter

The Jets had the ball on Miami’s 48 yard line to open the 2nd. William Hayes notched his first sack of the game to force the Jets to punt. New York responded with a sack of their own and Miami matched the Jets with their own punt.

New York received the ball and took their time moving down field. Errors and poor decisions forced the Jets to kick a field goal, tying the game up. On Miami’s possession, Tannehill followed up a sack with two deep passes, one to Parker (who’s finger is better, apparently) and the other to Drake. Miami was able to turn this drive into points, but only a field goal. After another touchback, New York’s offense stalled again yet they ran out the clock.

Similarly to the first quarter, both teams didn’t really do much offensively as it was a game dominated by both defenses. Tannehill had the best moments in this quarter hitting Parker for 22 yards and Drake for 15. Other than that, both teams have not looked good.

At the end of the second: Miami 6, New York 3

3rd Quarter

Miami started with the ball after half and fumbled the ball, giving he Jets possession at the 50 yard line. Miami was fortunate to hold the Jets to a field goal after the good field position. Miami took control a second time in the half and Tannehill connected on some nice passes to Kenny Stills and Devante Parker. Last week’s red-zone problems were not present this week as Miami was able to put up a touchdown after a 2 yard run from Drake.

New York took the next kickoff and didn’t do anything with it, punting for a touchback.

Miami’s ball to open the 4th!

At the end of the third: Miami 13, New York 6

Here we go!

Miami moved the ball down field on a decent drive that took a lot of time off the board. On 4th and 5, Miami ran a trick play, calling for the fake field goal and leading to a Jason Sanders rush that picked up the first! Two plays later Frank Gore punched it in for 6.

New York responded with a quick drive of their own, but a sack by Robert Quinn forced them to make a decision of 4th down. New York decided to go for it, but they were unable to pick up the yardage necessary for the first and turned the ball over.

Miami punted after their next drive, leaving the Jets with no time left to do anything of significance. Miami wrapped up the day with a solid outing. Not much jumped off the page stat wise, but the team put together a great game beating the Jets in this matchup.

At the end of the 4th: Miami 20, New York 6

Miami moved to 2-0 in the Madden simulations this year with a good win over the Jets.

Even though they got the win in what seemed like an easy fashion, I don’t see that being the case on Sunday. Darnold played well against the Lions and I expect to him to play better than simulated on Sunday.

I do, however, think that Miami will build on their success against the Titans and spoil Darnold’s home opener, regardless of if the rookie QB lights it up or not. Both defenses will play well on Sunday, but Miami’s will make the final stop to seal the victory. For fun, we’ll make that stop Minkah Fitzpatrick’s first interception of his career.

My prediction: Miami 24, New York 21
