Adam Gase is right about one thing, it’s one loss and not the end

The Miami Dolphins loss on Sunday was the worst under head coach Adam Gase’s tenure in Miami. It wasn’t pretty but it’s not over yet.
Adam Gase spoke to the media today following the big loss in New England and while he had plenty to say about a myriad of things that didn’t happen on Sunday one comment is spot on and why the Dolphins and their fans shouldn’t be too worried just yet.

In the minds of many fans this morning the sky is certainly starting to fall even though the Dolphins escapsed September with three wins played physical for the first three games and got beat in a stadium that most teams in the league lose at. It’s not the end of the world.
To be honest, expectations from Dolphins fans were probably a little too high. The Patriots lost two in a row which rarely happens but on this Sunday they got most of their injured back on the field and added a top receiving threat that they had been lacking.
On the Dolphins side injuries piled up before the game even started with DeVante Parker and Reshad Jones both inactive. Jones was obviously a bigger blow.
There are 12 games remaining for the Dolphins in 2018 and while none of them are easy the Dolphins need to take this full fist to the jaw as a wake-up call that trickery and half-ass play won’t win ball games.

The slow starts are concerning without question. Miami has started very slow in all four games this season. On Sunday they never bothered to get started. They looked more like a team that traveled to London from Los Angeles than a team that went from Miami to Boston.
Gase is right though. The media and some in the fanbase like to look at one game as a barometer for the season. Injuries are a concern and so is Adam Gase’s play calling, the lack of a running game, and where the hell are the edge rushers on defense? Miami didn’t play Derek Carr or Marcus Mariota, or rookie Sam Darnold on Sunday. They played Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Small mistakes make a huge difference. Miami made many on Sunday.
For Adam Gase now, it’s time to regroup and adjust. It’s time to focus on the Bengals and get the players who will be playing in the right mindset. Sunday was a smack in the face but how the Dolphins respond now will be the foretelling shadow of what their season could be.
