Jason Sanders proves his worth with game winning field goal
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins drafted Jason Sanders in last April’s draft after opting to not pay Cody Parkey the money he got with Chicago. It paid off on Sunday.
In April Jason Sanders was selected in the 7th round of the draft and through six games he has been near perfect hitting on all of his field goal attempts and missing one of his extra points. On Sunday, he was called upon with three seconds left in overtime to win the game for the Dolphins.
Only a couple of minutes earlier former Miami Dolphins place kicker Cody Parkey lined up for what would be a game winning field goal in overtime but his kicked sailed to the right of the uprights and Miami still had a little bit of life left in them.
Adam Gase turned to Kenyan Drake who had fumbled the winning touchdown dive in the end zone but now it was up to Sanders to give the Dolphins a win in a game that saw lead changes and big plays on both sides of the ball.
The Dolphins drive into Bears territory came up a little shorter than they would have liked and the rookie kicker who earlier in the game made his longest career field goal of 50 yards was asked to put aside any nerves he may have had and win the game.
There was no QB dive to place the ball on the correct hash mark instead it was a quick snap and spike to stop the clock. Three seconds remained. Sanders came onto the field, he was wide-eyed and paced around after the Bears called their final timeout. The stadium was quiet sans the Bears fans trying to make the noise to end the game in a tie.

The snap and hold were perfect and so was the ice in Sanders’ veins. The kicker was perfect and the Dolphins of course won the game. As the kick sailed through Sanders threw both arms into the air and his face hardened into a gaze until the smile broke over his face as the team surrounded him.
It was the first game winning kick the youngster has made in his short six game NFL career but it was a kick that very well may give new life to a team desperate to turn around a season that seemed as though it was trending in the wrong direction.
Albert Wilson and Brock Osweiler are getting a lot of attention this Monday after but Jason Sanders gave the Dolphins exactly what they drafted him for. Accuracy when they needed it the most.
