The Miami Dolphins fan base are tired of the losing. They are tired of nothing changing. They are growing tired of head coach Adam Gase.

Week after week more and more fans are calling for Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to fire Adam Gase at the end of the season. Maybe he will be should he? Really, when you think about it should the Dolphins move on from Adam Gase?

Tough question but no, no they shouldn’t.

After every game the Dolphins lose and lately lose miserably. My phone rings and the voices on the other end of the line all say the same thing. It’s time for Adam Gase to go. Sometimes I agree with their points and other times I simply agree and let them rant but is it time to let him go? More importantly would that be the right move?

There are problems in Miami that is certain and Adam Gase would do well to fire Matt Burke. Change for the sake of change is never good but Burke simply doesn’t have a handle on the defense and while at times they played well on Sunday in Green Bay the overall picture of the squad this year is not good. Someone needs to be accountable for the play on that side of the ball. Just like Adam Gase is responsible for the offense.

This brings us back to Adam Gase. It is hard enough to become a good coach in the NFL. Looking around the landscape of the league coaches come and go each year and the turnover is often hard to follow. This year alone several teams will be looking for new head coaches. In Cleveland there is already a vacancy and there are rumors that John Harbaugh will be out in Baltimore as well.

Adam Gase is struggling but as fans we have to understand that while it is not easy to win on Sunday the Dolphins have done well bringing in talent. Yes there are hiccups and yes there are players that are not performing but look at this starting line-up on offense.

Ja’Wuan James, Ted Larsen, Daniel Kilgore, Josh Sitton, Laremy Tunsil, MarQuies Gray, Ryan Tannehill, Albert Wilson, DeVante Parker, Jakeem Grant, all of those players on offense are starters. All of them missed or missed time on Sunday.

How does any coach overcome the injuries that have plagued the Miami Dolphins this year? Those are starters but the back-ups are busted up as well. The Dolphins have gone to their practice squad and to the street market not to find starters but contributors who will now need to start.

Defensively it has been a little better but the Dolphins have missed Cameron Wake, Charles Harris, Williams Hayes, and Bobby McCain. The injuries haven’t been as bad on the defensive side of the ball but even when they were all healthy the defense wasn’t performing.

Being an NFL head coach isn’t easy and comes with a lot of late nights and frustrations. Stephen Ross is likely to look at this after the season is over and unless he is hoping to bring in Harbaugh after the season, then Gase should be safe until next year.

The biggest task that Gase has in front of him is to find a way to limit the number of injuries and keep his players healthy. This isn’t however an Adam Gase issues alone. The Dolphins have been going through injuries for almost a decade at key positions.

For now Adam Gase should not be on the chopping block but he is heading in that direction if things do not improve in 2019. Something needs to change, philosophy or something. There is an unknown that is holding this team back. Perhaps it is Gase’s ego and his continued support of players that are simply average, like Ryan Tannehill. Maybe it is something else.

Regardless of why, the time isn’t now. Not for Gase. He may not be the man to turn the team around and take them back to prominence but it’s too early to say that he can’t.

The one problem that lies ahead however is quarterback. Adam Gase’s coaching career could be tied to Ryan Tannehill. We will look at that issue in our next editorial later today.
