To Miami Dolphins Adam Gase, it’s time to play David Fales
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins are hoping to have Ryan Tannehill back after they bye but that is wishful thinking, they really need David Fales.
If there is one thing that we have learned about Adam Gase is that if your in his circle his loyalty, to a fault, sometimes goes to far. Where is his loyalty to David Fales?
The second thing we have learned this year is that Brock Osweiler is a good off the bench quarterback but he is not a starting quarterback in the NFL. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass in three weeks but has overthrown three open receivers that would have resulted in touchdowns. There comes a time when you have to say “let’s try something new”.
For Adam Gase that would be now. The bye week. Osweiler is not making this team better and he is not putting the team in position to win. Yes injuries have decimated the receiving core and the offensive line. The center is throwing darts into the shotgun and some hit and sometimes they don’t. But the energy level with Osweiler is gone. He has that deer in the headlights look.
When training camp ended the question was whether or not David Fales who seemed to outplay Osweiler in training camp would win the back-up job. Surprisingly Adam Gase kept both quarterbacks bringing three into the season. Then he went and added Luke Falk off waivers.
Gase decided to keep all four and when Tannehill went down it appeared that maybe he was right in keeping Fales but now it’s time to show us why.
The 2018 season is not over but it is certainly trending further South in the standings than North. Miami is still in the thick of the sixth playoff seed but does anyone really believe that the Dolphins are going to make the post-season? Not at this pace.

Adam Gase will tell you that the offense was able to move the ball on Sunday and they were. Miami did a great job of getting into the red-zone in the first half and while they left with four field-goals and one turnover they needed to execute better. Gase’s play calling was much better against the Packers but one reason they were not able to get touchdowns was the play of Osweiler.
Now it’s time to give Fales a shot. There was a reason you kept him as the third quarterback but if you are just covering your bases, then let him go, but of course the Dolphins can’t now.
Fales may very well be worse than Osweiler but at this point it is a risk that Adam Gase should be willing to take. The upside potential is there. What Fales lacks in experience may very well be masked by making the missed opportunities of Osweiler.
Let’s face it, it is not like Osweiler is playing good football. He isn’t. He is turning the ball over, missing open receivers, not seeing open receivers, and taking way too many sacks. Six on Sunday. It’s time to see what Fales could do. And if he fails, you go back to Osweiler and then cut them both at the end of the season.
