The Miami Dolphins will face Adam Gase two times each season for the foreseeable future as he will be named the New York Jets next head coach.

Adam Gase was fired on Black Monday following an ugly loss to the Buffalo Bills in New York that capped a 7-9 2018 season. Gase now will be tasked with taking the Jets out of the cellar. He will have, at least on paper, a better quarterback in Sam Darnold.

It is unclear if the Jets will give Gase the same power he had with the Dolphins. In Miami Gase called his own offensive plays and had full control over the roster. Those two decisions, in part, were Gase’s biggest problems in Miami.

At first Jets fans should see a jump in the quality of play. Gase can motivate players and get the most out of their talents but his approach wears thin quickly and as Dolphins fans know, when Gase grows tired of someones behavior or attitude, they are gone.

In his three years with Miami Gase is as known for who has shipped out than the players he actually hit on. Gase was paramount in releasing Jordan Phillips, trading both Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry, while banging the table for Brock Osweiler, Julius Thomas, and Jay Cutler.

While the Jets have a good defensive team they have questions on offense including the offensive line. Gase was unable to fix the Dolphins offensive line in his three years and until last season avoided adding guards of top quality.

Perhaps Gase will take with him some of his players as well this off-season.

One likely conclusion is that Gase will hire some of the coaching staff he had in Miami but who is unknown. The next Dolphins head coach will likely want to hire his own staff as well. To be honest it wouldn’t be a bad thing as none of the Dolphins positions played exceptionally well.

Gase has talent and he could be a very good coach in the NFL but he has to lose his ego which more often than not does not mix well with team executives. Another interesting issue facing Gase is the New York media. Gase had issues with the South Florida media and by comparison, they are pretty tame.

At least one current Miami Dolphins fan has expressed his thoughts on Gase joining the Jets.

With the hiring of Adam Gase, only two teams, the Dolphins and the Bengals, are without head coaches. The Cardinals hired Kliff Clingsbury, the Buccaneers signed Bruce Arians, Green Bay went with Matt LeFleur. Denver announced on Wednesday they had hired Vic Fangio while Cleveland stayed in-house and promoted OC Freddie Kitchens.

It is unknown which way the Dolphins are leaning but Brian Flores of the Patriots and Kris Richard of the Cowboys appear to be the leading candidates.
