Chad O’Shea could be the best fit for the Miami Dolphins

Rumors continue to circulate that when Brian Flores joins the Miami Dolphins, Chad O’Shea will be his offensive coordinator. That could be a good thing.

When the Miami Dolphins finish adding to their coaching staff Patriots wide-receiver coach Chad O’Shea could be the biggest addition of the entire staff. I’m about to tell you why.

O’Shea has been with the Chiefs and the Vikings before joining the Patriots in 2009. He has worked as a wide-receiver coach and offensive assistant those entire 10 years. No he doesn’t call plays but that doesn’t mean that he can’t. He has been watching Josh McDaniels for most of that time and Bill Belichick.

If there is one thing O’Shea can take away from his time in New England is that killer mentality. That “don’t let off the accelerator” mentality. Belichick drives it into his coaches and so does McDaniels. Honestly though it is what he can bring to Miami that is important.

Miami seems to always have a lot of talent at wide-receiver but what they don’t have is good coaching to get the most out of that talent. Even with Jakeem Grant and Albert Wilson having solid years until they got hurt, Adam Gase couldn’t use them they best way possible. All that speed and Gase relied on bubble screens and out passes.

If there is one thing we can say for certain with all that talent is that they were never properly coached. Yet we have seen former Dolphins receivers Wes Welker and Chris Hogan go on to become major impacts on the Patriots offense. Hogan has spent his whole career with O’Shea and Welker spent four seasons with him.

In New England Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman became stars for the Patriots while Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker, and even Jarvis Landry were contained by scheme fits and coaching flaws.

While it is hard to say that Miami’s receiver group is more talented on paper than New England’s there is an argument for that. So why is it that the Patriots can get more from cast-off receivers than Miami can with top-tier and 2nd tier guys? Perhaps it very well may be coaching.

With O’Shea as the OC maybe the Dolphins will get more use out of their receivers. Better routes being run and a better understanding for them in defensive reads. O’Shea has done a really solid job with the Patriots receiving corp that tends to undergo changes at the position every year.

This is the single reason that I see O’Shea as a big positive and one that could really turn up the Dolphins lackluster offense. While the Dolphins receiver seem to never get open, Patriots receivers almost always are. I’m not sure I can pin that success on Belichick as much as potentially O’Shea and how he runs his unit.

This could make for an exciting change in Miami. So far, with the rumors of who may be coming to Miami, this one actually excites me more than Flores.
