Is calling this coming Miami Dolphins season tanking a bit too far?

Calling this Miami Dolphins coming season tanking or a re-build might start to have some up in arms over what each terminology means and the fact there is nothing to go off of.

The Miami Dolphins off-season has been delayed quite a bit from the presumed head coach Brian Flores still playing all the way to the championship game and the team he called defensive plays for the Patriots taking the title. Should he become head coach which is expected to happen the day after the title game then we will start to see which it is. Tanking or a re-build.

And there is no reason that the signs would happen right away. New coaches tend to get their own side of things in place with other coaches, assistants and position coaches as well as other player personnel first then come player decisions which would be cuts and depending on which players are cut only then would a clearer picture form as to which way this off-season might be going.

Should the up coming player cuts/trades happen and happen as expected with the same players that have been getting mentioned then the gauge swings toward a re-build. If other higher talented and or players that have produced well under a more team friendly contracts start getting cut/traded then we see a gauge swing toward tanking.

One note on those higher talented players types mentioned above: those are the ones that would draw a better pick or sweeten the pot in a potential player trade scenario. This would blurry the picture somewhat with the value of players coming in or even how those picks would be used if sooner rather than later. So we still have a long way to go to know for sure.

Other off-season thoughts:

Miami Herald sports writer Armando Salguero recently stated on social media that he heard from the Miami Dolphins compound the term tanking. Soon some other beat writer picked this up using it as well. Mando may have heard it used in the catch phrase ‘Tank for Tua’, Who knows?

More from Dolphins News

The news just broke with the official hiring of Flores and guess what?: ‘tank job’ was used in this report.

On the social media side I saw someone who I believe runs a Dolphins blog stating his opinion that the Dolphins defense is better than the Pats as he was anticipating the Flores hire with aspirations of what might come. People need to cool their jets some over this with comparisons. After all Flores has just one season calling defensive plays that’s it.

The expectation of finding a franchise quarterback hasn’t changed much with so many acting as though it is an easy task. This is a team that can’t even field a decent offensive guard let alone have even a middling line that would make a QB look at least average.

Speaking of QB I haven’t seen much about how the new head coach would be looking to find the next starter. New GM/VP Chris Grier has stated long ago that it will be up to the new head coach.
