Patrick Graham – Defensive coordinator

Graham becomes the new DC for the Dolphins after two poor seasons under Matt Burke. Like Burke, Graham was a linebackers coach before being promoted to DC with the Dolphins this week. He last coached the Packers linebackers last season.

Graham’s coaching career began in 2002 at Wagner college as a graduate assistant. He joined the Patriots in 2009 the same year Chad O’Shea joined the staff. He would grow from a coaching assistant to a defensive assistant to linebackers coach and spent two seasons as the Patriots defensive line coach.

Graham would leave NE in 2016 when he joined the Giants for two seasons before joining the Packers as their linebacker and running game coordinator.

Graham’s hiring is interesting because he has never been in a position to coach an entire defense but for Graham it won’t be that much of a big transition. While Flores has never been a DC he called the defensive plays this season in New England and the defense will be more of what Brian Flores envisions rather than Graham so it will be dual partnership and Graham will have help.

There is a possibility still remaining that Dom Capers could take on a senior defensive role with the Dolphins. Capers turned down a DC job with the Bengals and some have speculated that he would join the Dolphins. Miami did not mention his name in their press release on Friday.
