Miami Dolphins meet with Montez Sweat at the NFL Combine
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins are not hiding the fact they want to go with a defensive stalwart in round one of the draft. They met with Mississippi State defensive lineman Montez Sweat.
Over the last few years the Miami Dolphins have not drafted anyone they had visits with but that doesn’t mean they won’t. Over the weekend, the Dolphins brass met with Miss. States Montez Sweat who turned in a crazy 40 yard time at the NFL Combine.
Sweat, a 250 pound OLB/DE turned in one of the better 40 yard times at the combine this weekend with a 4.42 time. Better than many wide-receivers who ran the 40 over the weekend. Sweat’s 40 stands now as the best for a defensive lineman. In history.
Sweat, projected to be a mid-first round player is gaining momentum at the right time and could land himself a top five draft position. He met with the Dolphins over the weekend.
The Dolphins have reportedly taken a tough approach in meetings with prospective players. They are searching for the right mental, physical, and leadership qualities ahead of April’s draft. Sweat is not likely to be available when the Dolphins pick at 13 but if he falls, the Dolphins could be a landing spot for the talented and now speedy edge rusher.
Sweat has all the traits that NFL scouts look for in a pass rusher. Hand size, body size, speed, athleticism, and the strength to push through offensive lineman. His rise in the draft may take him away from the Dolphins but Miami knows that sometimes players fall.
Three years ago offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil fell out of the top spot after a gas-mask video surfaced. The Dolphins got his name in quickly and he has turned into a top left tackle. Last year Minkah Fitzpatrick was expected to go higher but he too fell to the Dolphins who wasted no time getting his name to the podium.

Miami is doing their due diligence on a lot of players especially along the defensive front where they have a big need. Finding the right fit is important and Sweat can play multiple roles for the Dolphins depending on the scheme they use game to game. He is an every down player with a non-stop motor.
After his combine workouts though it would be surprising to see him drop. It is good however to see the Dolphins being tough with the questions to make sure they have none of their own come April.
