When the Miami Dolphins are on the clock next month in the NFL Draft, Drew Lock could be a potential draft pick for them at 13.

Drew Lock is gaining more and more momentum after a decent 2018 season and a nice Senior Bowl. It was said that his pro-day yesterday was also very solid. The Miami Dolphins have met with him privately. That of course means nothing.

What type of player will Drew Lock be in the NFL is the same question being asked about Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray. With Lock however the two players he is most often compared to are at completely different ends of the spectrum. There is however a common theme between them.

Gunslinger mentality.

Drew Lock has an “it” factor that many in league circles are starting to throw around. He has leadership qualities, a strong arm, and is a solid pocket passer who does well moving around and buying time without panicking. It is his accuracy at times and his willing to a take unnecessary chances that has him being likened to Brett Favre and Jay Cutler.

If Lock turns out to be more Favre tha Cutler whomever drafts him won’t care about the chances or risks because they pay off more than they cost. The same can not be said about Jay Cutler. Favre had a love and passion for the game that Cutler didn’t seem to have.

Where Favre was feisty and played with a constant desire to win, Cutler played with a never-may-care attitude that turned a lot of people off. Smoking Jay meme’s dominated the NFL landscape following Cutler wherever he went.

Cutler found moderate NFL success over his career but Favre reached an elite level that few can ever say they ascended. Lock could easily end up being both in some ways and neither in others. Whereas his decision making is more Cutler his leadership is far more Favre.

Lock is an intriguing prospect this year and many have him going as high as Denver at 10 or to the Giants at their second first round pick at number 17.
