The Miami Dolphins could do a lot worse than drafting Christian Wilkins at thirteen in this months draft. He could change the Dolphins defense.

When the Miami Dolphins are on the clock, Clemson defensive tackle may be long gone. His stock continues to rise and division rival Buffalo is becoming a landing spot in mock drafts. Other mocks have Wilkins going between 10 and 20.

Wilkins should be a top target for the Dolphins at 13 if he lasts that long. He is the type of player that will change the defensive front. A big versatile and quick defensive tackle, Wilkins can collapse the pocket and is a top run stopping interior defender.

Wilkins fits the mold of what Flores needs to run his defense. Maybe more so than the edge rushers that should be on the board. He comes from a big school that is coming off a National Championship in which Wilkins himself played extremely well in.

Miami needs defensive tackle help and Wilkins is a three down player that can play the nose tackle role if the Dolphins move away from the 4-3 they are built for now. If they stay in that base scheme, he could do more damage.

Quick off the ball and well-disciplined, Wilkins fits the tough, violent image that Flores says he wants in his players. The question is will he fall?

That is hard to predict and so many other factors will come into play. Each year the top of the draft has some surprise picks that no one expected. That tends to push other players down the board. The QB’s could have an impact on where some defenders slide to.

Miami shouldn’t try to move up for him and Ed Oliver would be a better player but he isn’t expected to get out of the top ten. Wilkins however should have the same impact that Oliver has in 2019 and beyond.

Miami needs a plug and play player and Wilkins is exactly that. He can take over an offensive line with strength and mobility. He can handle two offensive lineman and still make plays. There are some who see him as an Ndamukong Suh type but other see a Richard Seymour.

Flores’ defense in New England needed a big body in the interior and Wilkins at 6’3″ 315 can be that guy. He can also slide out to play defensive end which makes him a versatile option for the Dolphins in their rebuild. He is one of a few players that Miami should be looking at but he should be near the top of their board and would make a lot of sense for this young team.
