Opinion: The top player at every position in this years NFL Draft
By Brian Miller
Who are the top players in this years NFL draft at each of the offensive positions? Opinions vary person to person but here are mine.
Whether you agree or disagree or simply continue to call me the fool of PhinPhanatic, maybe spell fool, Phool, we all have the players we like the most. Unfortunately those players never seem to end up on the Miami Dolphins.
In the comments you can chide me, I’ve grown quite accustomed to the barbs and kind of like them, but here are the players I think are the tops at their position. The players I think will have the better NFL career. Today we cover the offensive positions.
Quarterback
Will Grier – West Virginia
There is something that I really like about him. I don’t see him as first round talent but I do seem him as a second and would not be unhappy if the Dolphins drafted him (I still think they should wait until 2020). Grier has a big arm and loves the game. He is gym-rat and studies film all the time. Grier has received some knocks after his transfer to West Virginia for some off-field issues but he can be a leader that the rest of the team can get behind.
Tight – End
T.J. Hockenson -Iowa
Hockenson is the most well-rounded tight-end in this year class but it isn’t by much. Some believe that his fellow Iowa tight- end, Fant is the better TE. Hockenson is a better blocker and NFL teams continue to try and find players that can do both well.
Running back
Mile Sanders – Penn State
Sanders is projected to go in the late first early 2nd but I think he will go a little more towards the middle of the 2nd. This years draft class isn’t top-heavy with runners and Sanders should be the second runner off the board. He has great speed and quickness with equally good vision. He may need to work on his pass protection at the next level.
More from Phin Phanatic
- Tua Tagovailoa practicing with teammates is everything a leader does
- 4 offensive tackles Miami Dolphins could draft at 51
- Miami Dolphins don’t need CB help but these 5 could be available at 51
- 4 players that could replace Wilkins if Miami Dolphins don’t re-sign him
- Miami Dolphins have a starting point with Wilkins after Simmons deal
Wide-Receiver
D.K. Metcalf – Ole Miss
There is no big time WR in this years draft that is going to have teams in the top 20 pining for. Metcalf is the best of this group but he is likely not going to get drafted until the mid to late first round and some project him to go in the last 10 of round one. Metcalf has great speed but lacks consistency and quickness in his routes.
Tackle
Jonah Williams – Alabama
A lot of people view Jawaan Taylor as the top tackle in this years draft but I think that Williams will be the better professional. He has great hands and footwork and is able to push-off defenders and then reestablish his feet to get second contact leverage. At Alabama he was well coached and his consistency is well noted.
Guard
Cody Ford – Oklahoma
Ford can play guard and tackle which makes him valuable. He has a great work ethic and he ranks as one of the best at both offensive line positions. Ford is a guy you can build an offense around and pairing him with Laremy Tunsil on the left side of the line could give the Dolphins a stellar opportunity to run the ball on that side. Ford has the strength, footwork, and athleticism to be a pro-bowl player in year one.
Center
Garrett Bradbury – N.C. State
Bradbury is going to be a leader on the offensive line he eventually lands on. He is a smart, dedicated, studious, center who will earn respect quickly from his teammates. His work ethic is fantastic as is his consistency. He can pass block and run block and is well-disciplined.
