The Miami Dolphins fan base is not taking this rebuild very well despite the fact that many of those fans wanted to “tank”.

Somewhere along the line from March to today, many Miami Dolphins fans are wondering what is going on despite the fact that the team has pretty much-been upfront since the beginning in terms of their intentions.

Before Brian Flores was hired Stephen Ross announced Chris Grier was going to oversee the entire football operations. He also said that the team was going to tear it down and rebuild it. This on the day that the team announced the firing of Adam Gase.

Now, two weeks into a season that actually is playing out the way it was advertised, fans are losing their minds. Some of this happens to be because Brian Flores assured the media that there was not going to be any tanking. Judging by the first two weeks of the season, it is pretty clear they don’t need to try and tank. They simply are not very good.

That, however, was the intention. To a small or maybe even a big degree. The Dolphins don’t want to lose but at the same time, they are accepting the fact that they likely will.

Fans are upset over roster moves that have been made and moves that have been circulating around the rumor mill. It is never easy to see favorite players jettisoned off to another team. Even when the compensation for that player was more than what the team spent.

Laremy Tunsil will need to be replaced and the Dolphins have two first-round draft picks to find a said replacement. Minkah Fitzpatrick reportedly could bring the Dolphins an additional first-round pick and a possible 2nd round pick as well. That is a pretty good compensation package that doesn’t want to buy into the system that Brian Flores is selling the team.

Not all of the players want out. Xavien Howard and Jerome Baker have said that they are on board with the changes to make this team better. They are buying into the schemes and systems. They are buying into the team-first mentality. Even Kenyan Drake has said that he has not asked for a trade and wants to stay in Miami.

Why keep players that don’t want to be a part of the rebuild? It makes no sense because those players will never give the type of effort that the coaches are asking for.

When a new coach takes over a team he makes a lot of changes. Quarterback is usually the first to go and in the case of Flores, he did just that. He and Grier sent Ryan Tannehill to Tennessee. More players followed and after this season more will in turn follow.

The concept of losing isn’t being lost on this coaching staff. They have a lot of youth they are working with and trying to coach up. There are going to a lot of Sundays that play out like the last two weeks. This team simply isn’t built to win, not now.

Fans that wanted a rebuild didn’t know what they were hoping for. Fans who wanted to “Tank for Tua” didn’t realize it could be pretty bad. It is bad. The Dolphins are not a good football team but they expected it. Fans should as well. Miami took control of their contracts and are in an evaluation season. There are positives though.

The defense improved from week one to week two and while the offense looked really bad, a lot of that can be put on Ryan Fitzpatrick who played horribly. Some of it can be put on the shoulders of the receivers who dropped balls. The thing is the offensive system doesn’t look bad. Receivers are getting open and while the offensive line is struggling they actually looked better on Sunday than the week prior.

There are 14 more games in this season and if they haven’t already, fans need to realize that this season is not going to be full of hope and any win Miami does get, will be met with other fans complaining that they won too many.

Losing hurts. It sucks and makes the day horrible but if we stop watching the scoreboard long enough we can take some solace in knowing that little things seem to be getting better and if a player gets traded away, that is one more opportunity to find the right player for the systems that the team is running. The right player that fits into the team-first mentality they are trying to build.
