The Miami Dolphins currently own the third overall pick in next month’s draft but fans can not agree on who they should take or what they should do.

Ask a fan on social media or at the local grocery store, or anywhere else for that matter what Miami should do with the third pick in the draft and you are likely going to get a lot of different answers.

If there is anything close to a consensus it would be trading the pick to another team. The Dolphins have plenty of options if this is the route they choose to go in. Atlanta at four, the Panthers at 8 and maybe even Denver at 9 are all possibilities.

If the Dolphins are set on taking a player at three they have plenty of options as well and this is where the fans begin to separate.

Benjamin Albright on Twitter said the Dolphins could have a player in mind so much so that they may stay at three no matter if they get a good offer or not. That has fans pondering who Miami would take with that third overall.

Penei Sewell is a popular choice and with the recent attempt to add a tackle with the signing of Isaiah Wilson. That attempt didn’t work out and after his release over the weekend, many believe that Sewell is back at the top of the Dolphins wish list.

That may very well be the case but Wilson would not have changed the Dolphins’ approach whether he was still on the team or not. Miami wasn’t banking on Wilson being a starter as much as they were taking a flyer on his potential.

In the case of Sewell, the Dolphins would have drafted him regardless of whether Wilson was on the roster or not.

DeVonta Smith has gained considerable talk but this is nothing new. Smith has been a top prospect among the fan base since the draft order was finalized at the end of the regular season. Smith is expected to weigh in at his official pro-day but told media today that he weights around 170 pounds.

There is no doubt that his physical stature is going to be under the microscope but there is also so much talent with Smith that it is hard to overlook. The question is will Miami or anyone else be getting a can’t miss prospect or another Tavon Austin that has all the tools but just can’t get it done at the next level?

This is an argument that has been playing out among fans as well.

Next up is Ja’Marr Chase. Chase sat out last season as a COVID precaution but his draft stock has not been hurt by it. Chase has a lot of talent as well and many fans believe he is the Dolphins target at three. Or should be.

The debate on Chase also includes comparisons to DeVante Parker and some wonder if he is too much of a jump-ball player and not a guy who will get long field looks. These fans argue that is a 15-yard phenom that is good off the line but won’t factor much after 15 yards.

Kyle Pitts

Certainly not last, Kyle Pitts is becoming a major player at the third spot with fans thinking this is the one can’t miss prospect in this year’s draft. Pitts, a tight end with a wide-receiver skill set is going to go in the top 10 but will he go in the top five? If he does, he will be one of the highest drafted tight-ends in NFL history.

Mike Ditka is the highest drafted TE in NFL history taken in 1961 with the 5th overall pick.  Four players have been drafted sixth overall at the position with Kellen Winslow, Jr. and Vernon Davis being the most recent.

It is not just fans that are unsure of which direction the Dolphins will go. Most in the local media and national media are just as scattered in their speculations. It isn’t something that will change until the Dolphins are announced to be on the clock April 29.
