The Miami Dolphins should pursue James Conner.

Another player that is surprisingly in free agency still is running back James Conner. The former third-round pick has not been able to shake the injury bug, as he has never played in more the 14 games in a season. He has missed 12 games the past three seasons, so there is some concern about adding a player like Conner.

Miami already signed running back Malcolm Brown this offseason, but Brown seems to be more of a depth signing than anything. There were reports from ESPN that Miami was interested in Conner, making you wonder if they are still interested.

My guess would be yes, but for the right price, as it is with any of their free-agent deals. Conner would be wise to sign to a team like the Dolphins, who gives you an opportunity to win and split carriers in a running back by committee approach. That would allow Conner to try his best to stay healthy for 16 full games and sign a new contract the following season.

From Miami’s perspective, it would be the same concept as signing Clowney. Miami has a huge hole at running back, so Conner would give them flexibility in the draft. Miami would not need to reach at running back at pick 18. A running back by committee with Conner, Brown, and Myles Gaskin would not be the worst thing in the world.

Many fans want the big named running back, and it makes sense, but the Dolphins would be okay with Conner leading the charge for one year.
