The Miami Dolphins are sitting at six and have said they are willing to listen to phone calls should an offer come to the table. The phone calls are coming.

According to a Denver Broncos beat writer, Zac Stevens via Twitter, Denver’s general manager, George Paton has spoken with Dolphins Chris Grier as late as yesterday.

The Dolphins will not likely make any moves until draft night. The Broncos will want to be certain that the guy they want is still on the draft board and the Dolphins will want to make see if one of their top prospects are still at six before moving out.

The Dolphins as we all know have already moved from three to 12 and back to six. Miami isn’t ruling out the possibility of making more trades or moving around the draft boards. That being said, he is going to be cautious.

Miami is rumored to have high interest in Kyle Pitts or Ja’Marr Chase but others believe his real target remains DeVonta Smith of Alabama. Miami may be able to land Smith at the 9th overall position but will they pass on Pitts if he were to fall to six? That’s a question many are asking themselves.

The latest draft rumors have Pitts going to Atlanta but the Falcons still are keeping their options for a trade open as well. It is surprising that Paton would openly say he talked to Grier but this could be an attempt to get the Falcons on board with a trade for less.

At four overall, the Broncos would almost certainly land one of their two top options. Rumors have the Broncos targeting either Justin Fields or Trey Lance. Earlier the Broncos Paton said that they are “very high on Drew Lock” but want the competition. Seems more than just competition.

John Elway stepped away from the dual role of being both CEO and GM and Paton has the green light to do what he feels is in the best interest of the team.

As for Grier, it’s possible that he has about five or six players that are on his “no matter what” list, and as such, moving to nine does not take them all off his board. If Grier had an absolute singular “no matter what” player, he would have stayed at three.
