June 1st comes and goes with no big Miami Dolphins news

Those that circled June 1st and June 2nd on their calendars in red are probably not happy with the Miami Dolphins right about now.

There were supposed to be big moves or at least some moves. Not just with the Dolphins but with other teams as well. June 1st is the day that teams can cut veterans and spread portions of their salary over two seasons to reduce cap hits and save cap space.

In Miami, it was Jakeem Grant, Albert Wilson, and maybe Allen Hurns who would find themselves on the chopping block but instead, June 1st came and went. All three are not only still on the team but are practicing with them during this week’s OTAs.

Julio Jones is still a member of the Atlanta Falcons despite the fact that the Falcons presumably had a 1st round draft pick offered in a trade. The Falcons continue to carry Jones on the books and no one seems to be talking about where he is going.

June 1st was supposed to see the Dolphins trim their roster to create more cap space, sign their remaining four draft picks, maybe add Malik Hooker, or recently visited Melvin Ingram. Again, June first passed, and nothing.

At some point between now and September, the Dolphins will need to make roster moves. We will look at our pre-camp roster predictions in a series starting the middle of next week and into the next but we have to wonder how long Miami will carry all these receivers?

Miami may be playing this smart. After seeing WRs go down during training camp, keeping them around through August is a good insurance policy. Still, that sets up the team for some big cuts come September.

Regardless, right now, we are learning the lesson that June 1st really isn’t a watermark day on your calendar. Many in the media-hyped up so many moves but nothing happened. Yet.
