Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 2nd Miami Dolphins @ Tennessee Titans

This is not so much a revenge game against a team or franchise than it is against a player. In fact, it is not even really a revenge game. Instead, the Dolphins can look at it as an “I’m-doing-just-fine-without-you” type of situation.

The Miami Dolphins spent six seasons trying to figure out if Ryan Tannehill was the right leader for the future of the team. He was never much better than mediocre, but never bad enough to bench or move on from. He had solid statistical seasons and made the occasional impressive play or throw, but was never one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Things changed when he left for Tennessee, where he became one of the league’s top passers for the Titans. He led the NFL in QB rating in 2019, and had the most game winning drives and 4th quarter comebacks of any quarterback in 2020.

Tannehill’s rise to the top of the QB charts has left plenty of Dolphins fans scratching their heads and wondering where all this talent was in Miami. While many of us wish him well and even root for him, we also want to prove that we’re just fine without him, and that both parties can be happy for each other’s success.

But the Dolphins have yet to prove that they can be successful post-Tannehill. There are moderate expectations for Miami for the 2021 season, and the Week 17 matchup against the Titans could end up being the biggest game of the year.
