7. Running Backs

The running backs could be a boom or bust unit for the Dolphins. Last season, Myles Gaskin proved himself to be the best option of any of the six running backs that Miami employed, though he only started seven games and failed to eclipse 600 total rushing yards. But he’ll be the featured back this coming season, and some are predicting a big season from the former 7th round pick.

Salvon Ahmed showed some good flashed last season, and he’ll likely be second in line when it comes to the backfield workload. He and Malcom Brown, whom the Dolphins signed this off season, will be the only two backups on the active roster. If two of the three can live up to expectations, then the running back unit could be good enough to be bumped up on this list.

6. Special Teams

After having a reliable special teams unit for the past few years, half of the Dolphins’ kicking game is now an unknown. Punter Matt Haack signed a three-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, and Miami wound up signing journeyman Michael Palardy to replace him. Palardy has punted for nine different teams in his career, including the Toronto Argonauts, and missed all of last season with an ACL injury.

The other half of the kicking unit is one of the best, however. Jason Sanders has been perhaps the most consistent player on the Dolphins’ roster in recent memory, and Miami rewarded him by signing the place kicker to a five-year contract extension that made him one of the highest paid kickers in the league.

This unit would be ranked far higher if Haack was still around. Hopefully Palardy can make a name for himself.
