Offensive Tackle: Zion Nelson (Miami)

In week one the Dolphins left tackle spot was played by rookie seconder rounder Liam Echineberg after former first-round left tackle Austin Jackson was out due to COVID-19. Saying the Dolphins need to upgrade at left tackle may be wrong at the moment, but they do need to upgrade at right tackle.

Insert Zion Nelson, the ninth-ranked tackle on Pro Football Focuses big board, the Miami Hurricanes junior tackle. Nelson has been a starter for the Hurricanes since his freshman season in 2019 and has improved every season.

This year, the Hurricanes have struggled deeply in both of their games against Alabama and against Appalachian State. Nelson could see his stock hurt in the season due to the teams struggles, but his combine numbers and athletic profile should have him herald as a first-round prospect.

At 6-foot-5 215-pounds, Nelson is a giant player that has been a three-year starter at left tackle. Even with his experience at left tackle, it’s possible the team would try something similar as Detriot has attempted with their heralded offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

Miami will likely look to add another offensive tackle in the draft and Nelson could be their go-to prospect, especially considering how close of a look the team will get.
