The Miami Dolphins and the rest of the NFL are set to begin their annual shopping in seven days. Rumors to this point have been very lukewarm but as the start of free agency gets closer, there are some tidbits starting to come to light.

More from Dolphins News

The first “rumor” which really may not be more than a link based on Vance Joseph’s experience in Cincinnati has the Dolphins interested in Adam “formerly called Pac-Man” Jones. The obvious tie is to Joseph who coached Jones as the Bengals secondary coach. Jones has turned around his career after an early off-field attitude issue. Last season he was part of the defensive mental meltdown that led to the loss in the playoffs to the Steelers.

Jones is a good coverage corner and that brings the second reason he may be on the target watch list for Miami. They need a solid corner to play opposite Brent Grimes who may or may not be back with the team. Jones is going to cost some money but it shouldn’t be unrealistic.

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Cowboys, Raiders, Dolphins, Vikings, and Browns also are in the mix for Jones. The Bengals likewise hope to retain him. – Profootballtallk.com."

Another player that apparently is going to draw interest from the Dolphins is L.A. Rams defensive end, Williams Hayes.

"There aren’t a lot of starting-caliber defensive ends in free agency, but as Armando (Salguero) and I both heard independently in recent days, the Dolphins very much like the Rams’ William Hayes (5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, rated fifth against the run among all defensive ends by Pro Football Focus for 2015). – From Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald."

Hayes makes a lot of sense for the Dolphins who may need defensive end help with Olivier Vernon a possible fleeing DE in free agency and the unknown immediate future of Cam Wake. Hayes is a very good run stopping defensive end something tha Wake has struggled with. Paring him with Ndamukong Suh could bolster a run defense that played poorly for most of the season.

In another bit of Barry Jackson news, Jackson is reporting that the Dolphins could be looking at Vernon Hargreaves at number eight in next months draft.

Over the next few days rumors around the NFL should start building steam. Especially once the 7th arrives and teams are allowed to speak to the agents for free agent players. We will keep you updated as news and rumors become available.

In other Dolphins related news, former Dolphins cornerback who was released a couple of weeks ago has agreed to a deal with the Tennessee Titans. Veterans released by their clubs do not have to wait until the start of free agency to sign with new teams.
