Here are the latest rumors regarding the Miami Dolphins:
Dion Jordan – Two separate rumors exist right now in regards to Jordan. The first comes VIA Peter King who is reporting that Jordan is on the verge of being cut. Absent from last weeks voluntary workouts the Dolphins are sidestepping questions about his not being there. Still there is cause for concern as Jordan missed eight games last season due to suspension. In his two seasons thus far he has totaled three sacks.
Rumor number two has the Dolphins putting Jordan on the trade block but understand that his value right now is very low. The Dolphins will have to give up something else in order to get rid of him. If the Dolphins find a trade partner for Jordan it will either be a late third day pick with conditions or part of a player pick swap. Say Jordan and a pick for another player and a pick. Nothing too outrageous. The fact remains that Jordan has lowered his own value with his off-field actions. On the field the Dolphins lowered his value by not finding a way to use him.
Dallas Cowboys – According to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel via Twitter, the Dolphins have only been contacted by one other team regarding a trade down for the Dolphins. The Cowboys are at number 27 in this years draft and a move from 27 to 14 could be very costly for the Cowboys. Keep an eye on Todd Gurley as he may be the catalyst for a trade with the Cowboys. If Gurley is there the Boyz’ may want to move up. If he is not there, the Boyz’ may want to jump up for Melvin Gordon.
Oakland Raiders – There is a rumor, unsubstantiated and from an obscure source, that the Dolphins are talking with the Raiders about a swap. The Raiders are picking 4th and the Dolphins 14th obviously. The last time the Dolphins jumped up with the Raiders it was for Dion Jordan and it cost them a 2nd round pick to do so. The Dolphins do not have a 3rd round pick so moving up to draft what many assume would be a WR is not likely at this point without gaining some picks back first.
Todd Gurley – Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reported over the weekend that the Dolphins are “coveting” running back Todd Gurley. It’s an interesting bit of information from a team that is keeping their options very quietly hid. Regardless, Gurley’s medical reexamination came back with very good news and he should be available for the start of the season or shortly thereafter. Still is that worth the risk for a 14th overall pick?
Trading Back – According to Beasley the Dolphins will try and trade back in round one if an elite player doesn’t fall to them at 14. This would make a lot of sense and really goes without saying. I think the Dolphins are going to surprise us on Thursday night.
