Miami Dolphins Turned Down Trade Offers

The Miami Dolphins selected the guy they wanted, DeVante Parker, on Thursday night. In doing so however they opted to rebuff the temptation of trading down. The question has really been did they receive any offers and we now know from the most reliable source that they did indeed receiver offers for the 14th pick.

What was offered may never be known but we do know that San Diego moved up to 15 and gave up a 4th and 5th round pick to jump a couple of spots. According to Stephen Ross, the Dolphins had a few phone calls.

"“We were getting phone calls, people wanting to move up and offered some pretty interesting things,” Ross said. “When you’ve got a guy like DeVante Parker on the board, you take what you know you got. It’s great. Because you don’t know what’s going to be there down the road.”"

Interesting things? That would be an “interesting” thing to know. As in what exactly? It’s very hard to imagine that Parker would have fallen three more spots and frankly it’s unlikely that the Dolphins would have been in position to take someone they really liked. Parker is who the Dolphins were targeting and rumors swirled they would try and trade up for him if they could. Instead, Parker fell to 14 right where the Dolphins wanted him to be.

"“It was a great pick for us,” Ross said. “It was exciting. When you know what you want, then you see these other guys come off the board and you know you’re getting down to Cleveland, we thought they’d go for a receiver. They didn’t. That’s when we knew we’d get him. We knew New Orleans wasn’t going to and that was the next pick.”"

Yet New Orleans may have selected him. The Saints are lacking in the weapon department for Drew Brees having traded Kenny Stills to Miami and trading Jimmy Graham to Seattle. Drafting Parker would not have been a surprise although many believed the Saints would go defense in round one. They opted for the top tackle left on the board instead.

Asked if the Dolphins will be more exciting to watch this season, Ross simply told MiamiDolphins.com “Yeah, I’d say so.”
