Miami Dolphins fantasy players you should draft

If you are one of those fantasy football guys, or gals, that draft right before the start of the season then there is a good chance that your league will be drafting tonight, tomorrow, or on Monday. Labor Day is always a hot draft day for fantasy ballers.

One of the questions that you will undoubtedly have is whether or not you should draft a player on the Miami Dolphins roster. You should. In fact there are several choices for you to make the question is simply when.  That depends on what kind of league you are in. For example if you are playing in a league that consists of a lot of other Miami Dolphins fans, you will likely draft players much higher than you would in other leagues. Case in point, Ryan Tannehill.

Ryan Tannehill – Tannehill is set to have a spectacular season but that doesn’t necessarily mean a statistical season to match. In several fantasy drafts thus far, Tannehill seems to be a hot QB in the mid-rounds. Mid-rounds meaning 8th to 12th rounds. Tannehill has a lot of potential but to be honest he isn’t a guy that is going to post 30 touchdowns and the questions about the offensive lines ability to protect him can’t be underestimate. If you need a starter Tannehill is a guy you should consider but I would at least get a starting quarterback to go with him just in case.

Lamar Miller – Miller can be explosive at times and he has really worked hard to improve his contributions in the passing game as a receiver. That being said if you are looking for a running back that is going to get you points per reception, Miller isn’t going to be it. He is a workhorse though and should get you consistent numbers a number two or flex runner. Miller will not see the end zone every game so temper  your hopes that he is going to be the one player that will get you a win, in all likelihood most weeks should see him getting between 10 and 15 points. Miller is likely to be drafted after the 3rd round and if you are targeting him, I would make sure to get him in round four if he is there because he won’t last beyond it if he makes it that far.

Jarvis Landry – Landry isn’t going to score you touchdowns, well he will be not consistently. He will however score you PPR points and they could be huge. Depending on your draft philosophy, Landry could be a very good number two wide-receiver with a lot of potential to outperform his draft spot. Most of the drafts I have been in see him taken in rounds six or seven. He could go a little higher if it’s a PPR league. He will if it’s a Dolphins fan league.  Landry is going to have a good year so he should most definitely be on your watch list and if you can add him as 3rd receiver or flex option, do it.

Cameron Wake – I don’t draft IDP (indépendant defensive players) leagues. I never really cared for it. When I did however strong defensive ends were a premium. Wake could have a career this season with the addition of Ndamukong Suh. I would keep an eye on when D players start getting drafted and then pull the trigger careful not to fall into the trap of defensive player runs.

Ndamukon Suh – Like Wake it’s a matter of watching how the draft is unfolding. Wake is a beast but he is not going to get you a ton of points. He will have the occasional sack and tackle but his real benefit comes in how he frees others up to make plays. If you draft Suh don’t over draft him because we can not be 100% sure on what he will do in Miami this year as it relates to fantasy points.

Kenny Stills – Stills is a late round draft pick and he is more for depth on your roster than a starter. A bye week filler. That being said Stills has the potential to break out and if you have him on your roster you may find that as he and Tannehill grow so will his production which could make him a nice flex position player each week. If you draft Stills you will likely have to wait for that to happen though.

Rishard Matthews – Despite the talk of him leap frogging Stills on the depth chart, Matthews has no real fantasy value right now. Stills will eventually build his rapport with Tannehill and the Dolphins need Still’s deep threat playmaking potential which will cut into Matthews time on the field regardless of whether he starts or not.

DeVante Parker – There are two types of fantasy owners that will draft Parker. Miami Dolphins fans and dynasty/keeper leagues. Parker’s value may not be fully realized this year but next season could be a whole different story. If you can draft him, do so late. After round 11 or 12 in most drafts. In some he went un-drafted. His immediate value to you will not be realized until later in the season but if you can get him late it’s not a bad low end investment and someone you can easily stash as 5th receiver on your roster to see how it plays out.
