The Miami Dolphins will have a little bit of a wait when the draft kicks off later this month, so, it’s speculation time. Holding the 13th pick in round one and two picks in round 7, the Dolphins have an opportunity to change their roster.

More from Dolphins Draft

While it goes without saying, predicting a teams draft picks is almost impossible. There is a world of possibilities and every other selection made by every other team plays into what a team will do when it’s their time to select. Making it more difficult are runs at certain positions.

It’s no secret that many teams will suddenly “panic” for lack of a better word. Midway through a round teams will start to draft wide-receivers or offensive lineman and suddenly the player a team wants is either taken off the board earlier than they expected or they realize that the player they want the following round may not last as long as they think. Some teams will draft players earlier than they had hoped just to make sure they are not left without a coveted player. Sometimes drafting that player a round or even two rounds earlier.

With three weeks left until the draft kicks-off Miami still has a lot of time to forge their draft board. Players will move up and down as the weeks pass into days. Today we are going to mock all seven rounds of this draft for the Miami Dolphins to get an idea of where they might be going during the three day period of the draft.

ROUND ONE

Ezekiel Elliot – RB – Ohio State University

Many believe that Elliot will not be available when the Dolphins pick at 13. The biggest hurdle may come at the 8th overall selection where the Dolphins moved out and Philadelphia moved in. It would be an ironic twist of fate if a player that is high on the Dolphins board goes to the team they swapped picks with. New rumors have surfaced that the Eagles may try and move up in the draft to land a quarterback and if that happens, Elliot could fall. He could fall regardless. The Dolphins have a visit scheduled with Elliot.

The Dolphins would almost certainly jump at this opportunity as Elliot would not only fit well within the Dolphins offense but immediately give the team a one-two punch with Jay Ajayi. A playmaking runner who has solid vision and physicality, Elliot would make the Dolphins offense very potent…if they can fix the offensive line.

Other options

Linebacker Reggie Ragland should still be on the board when Miami selects and his addition would really bolster the linebacker group. While Ragland lacks the “stud” label he is very good but would need to grow into a leadership role. Jack Conklin, an offensive tackle makes a lot of sense as well and currently is the player I would target if I were the Dolphins. Able to play guard and tackle, Conklin would play inside this year and move outside in 2017 or 2018 as a replacement for Brandon Albert. Another OL option could be Ronnie Stanley who is projected to go somewhere between picks 10 and 15.

Cornerback is also a big need and Mackensie Alexander, Eli Apple, and Houston’s William Jackson are all possibilities. It’s also entirely plausible that the Dolphins go with a defensive end as well. Miami knows that they will run into a problem in 2017 when Mario Williams may not be back.
