On The FInSide’s 2016 NFL mock draft
By Brian Miller
The NFL Draft is this week and last week On The FinSide handed in their final 2016 NFL mock draft. It took about 37 minutes to complete.
More from Dolphins Draft
- 4 offensive tackles Miami Dolphins could draft at 51
- Miami Dolphins don’t need CB help but these 5 could be available at 51
- The Miami Dolphins should not take a running back in the draft
- Predicting five NFL draft night trades for the first round
- Looking ahead to the 2023 NFL Draft for the Miami Dolphins
Joining myself for the shows final draft preparation was co-hosts Brian “Cat” Catanzaro and co-host Paul Picken, Jr. Alternating picks after having our names drawn out of a hat, the trio began with the first pick and finished with the 31st. Sorry Patriots, we didn’t forget you don’t have a selection in round one this year.
Inevitably a player or two slides out of round one and someone will surely bring that up as you read the mock draft. The goal was to select the players that we believed each team would draft and not who we would have drafted in each of those slots. You can listen to the entire selection process by going here. Also be sure to check out our brand spanking new site at www.OnTheFinSide.com. Save it in your favorites list and check back often as it is still new and content will grow in the coming weeks.
The selection order placed myself first, followed by Paul, and then Cat.
1: Los Angeles Rams
Jared Goff – QB – California
The Rams made a bold move to trade up to the number one position and there is zero doubt that quarterback will be the pick. The only question is who. It seems to be swaying in the direction of Goff.
-
Philadelphia Eagles
Carson Wentz – QB – North Dakota
The Eagles were put into a position where they needed to move up after the Rams trade. The Browns wanted out of the 2nd spot and the Eagles desperately wanted in. Whomever the Rams don’t take at number one, will be the selection at number two and it appears that player will be Wentz.
-
San Diego Chargers
Jalen Ramsey – Florida State
The Chargers added a top wide-receiver in Travis Benjamin this off-season. They also added a strong cornerback in Casey Hayward. What they haven’t done is add a top safety. Ramsey makes the most sense for the Chargers entering the 2016 NFL Draft. The Chargers have a big need at offensive tackle as well and Tunsil could get some consideration but not in this mock.
-
Dallas Cowboys
"Myles Jack – LB – UCLA"
If Jack didn’t have injury concerns there would be no question about this pick. In the recent weeks there has been a larger number of mocks pushing Jack out of the top five and some have him dropping out of the top 10. When push comes to shove however, I think the Cowboys will fix their linebacker group and will dismiss the concerns. Another option very well could be Ezekiel Elliot. Jerry Jones likes big play making offensive players.
-
Jacksonville Jaguars
"Laremy Tunsil – OT – Mississippi"
There seems to be some momentum to the Jaguars trading this pick. If they stay put, Tunsil makes a lot of sense. The Jaguars need to protect their quarterback and open running lanes for the solid running back group. Tunsil is the best offensive lineman in this draft and the Jaguars would make a lot of sense.
-
Baltimore Ravens
"DeForest Buckner – DE – Oregon"
The Ravens need a defensive edge rusher and passing on Buckner would be a surprise. Buckner is the best in this years class.
-
San Francisco 49ers
"Joey Bosa – DE – Ohio State"
The 49’ers would love to draft a quarterback but none of the remaining prospects are believed to be this high on the 49’ers wish list. Bosa makes the most sense given the 49’ers defensive line issues especially at the end position.
"8. Cleveland Browns"
"Ezekiel Elliot – RB – Ohio State"
The 8th position in this years draft has been traded twice and some believe that the Browns will trade it again on draft day. If they stay put Elliot makes a lot of sense for a team with a lot of needs. Cleveland will wait until round two or trade back into round one to find a quarterback. Sasha Brown seems confident in Robert Griffin, III.
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
"Vernon Hargreaves, III – CB – Florida"
The Buc’s need offensive line help and Ronnie Stanley would be a solid pick here but they need corner help more and Hargreaves is the best in this years draft. The Buc’s have had plenty of options to watch him and keep him in the state of Florida.
-
New York Giants
"Ronnie Stanley – OT – Notre Dame"
The Giants will be watching Ezekiel Elliot closely but with Elliot off the board, Stanley fills a need and will be an instant upgrade on their offensive line.
-
Chicago Bears
"Shaq Lawson – DE – Clemson"
The Bears have a need at offensive tackle and if Stanley is still on the board, he will go with this pick. He isn’t in this mock so the Giants turn to defensive end and Shaq Lawson will be a perfect fit and fill a big problem that the Chicago has on the defensive edge.
-
New Orleans Saints
"Sheldon Richardson – DT – Louisville"
When looking at the Saints the most glaring needs are corner back and defensive line. The Saints had the worst defense in the league in 2015 and that has to change. They start fixing that problem by taking a top defensive tackle.
