History of Miami Dolphins single game interception records
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins watched corner-back Xavien Howard pull two interceptions in one game last year which brings up Miami’s single game history.
While Xavien Howard may have turned a corner (pun intended) in 2017 the Dolphins have had similar successes throughout history. Prior to Howards two game INT outing you only had to travel back to 2016 when Tony Lippett picked off the Jets twice.
The last time anyone had two picks on Miami was Buffalo’s Preston Brown in 2015 until 2017 when Terrence Brooks of the Jets picked off Jay Cutler twice in week two.
When it comes to a three-INT outing, you have to go back to November of 1999 when Sam Madison had three in one game against Tennessee. Miami threw three interceptions to one player in 2002. That October game saw Nate Clements pick off three. It was the last time one player had a triple against the Dolphins.
While it is hard to believe, the Dolphins have had one player who posted a four interception game? Care to take a guess before reading further? I’ll let you think about it while we look at a few other tidbits from history.

Defensively, no single player has ever picked off the Dolphins more than three times in one game. However the Dolphins have thrown their share of interceptions. Here is the “last time” these INT events occurred.
3 INT’s thrown in one game: Ryan Tannehill in Baltimore 2016
3 INT’s by the Dolphins: 2016, Phillip Rivers
4 INT’s thrown by Miami: Trent Green 2007 against Dallas
4 INT’s by Miami: 2016 Phillip Rivers
5 INT’s thrown by Dolphins: A.J. Feeley against Buffalo in 2004
5 INT’s by Miami: Drew Bledsoe, Patriots in 1999
6 INT’s thrown in one game: The Dolphins have never thrown six INT’s in one game.
6 INT’s by Miami: Miami picked off Oakland’s Donald Hollas six times in 1998.
So who was that Miami Dolphins player who had four interceptions in one game? Dick Anderson against Pittsburgh in 1973. That record has stood the test of time but who knows, maybe one of the Dolphins young corners will match it in 2018.
