In our look back through Miami Dolphins history during this arduous trek through the off-season, we turn our attention to the running back group.

Miami has fielded some pretty good runners through the years but only a few have been franchise players that stand the test of time. Can you remember the running backs through the 1980’s behind Dan Marino? How about the 2000 under Dave Wannstedt? We all remember Kiick, Csonka, and Morris.

Ricky Williams is easy to remember and so is Ronnie Brown. In terms of history they are relatively recent. Did you know that while each of them posted 100 yard games while with the Dolphins they never ran for 100 yards in one game together?

Two running backs did and we have to go all the way back to October 5th, 1975 when Mercury Morris and Don Nottingham each rushed for over 100 yards in a game in Green Bay. Morris posted 125 yards on the ground while Nottingham posted 102.

That was the last time Miami had two running backs go over 100 yards in a single game. The last time the Dolphins gave up 100 yards in a single game to two runners is far more recent.

On November 18th, 2015 Karlos Williams and LeSean McCoy both ran roughshod over the Dolphins defense. In 2017 the Dolphins came close to allowing two runners to reach 100 yards. In fact they came close to allowing three.

In a game against the Carolina Panthers, the Dolphins gave up 110 yards on the ground to Jonathan Stewart. They also allowed quarterback Cam Newton to rush for 95 yards. If that wasn’t enough Cameron Artis-Payne added 68 yards of his own and rookie Christian McCaffrey added 23. Needless to say it was an ugly game.
