Jim Jensen – 1981 – 1992

They called him “Crash”. I’m not sure if Jim Jensen ever really liked the nickname but no other player in Miami Dolphins history was more versatile and more consistent than Jim Jensen. Jensen was the penultimate utility player before the NFL started using utility players on their rosters.

For 12 seasons Jensen lined up all over the field for the Dolphins. Over his NFL career, played entirely in Miami, he rushed for 142 yards on 26 carries averaging 5.5 yards per carry. He gained a total of 2,313 yards from scrimmage over his career.

As a receiver Jensen caught 229 passes for 2,171 yards and 19 touchdowns. He even passed for two touchdowns hitting Mark Duper and Ferrell Edmunds for scores.

Jensen could play the emergency QB role, he could punt, he could play slot, outside, and even tight-end. He played special teams and if memory serves correctly (I’m almost 50 so maybe not) he lined up once or twice on defense and could punt as well.

Over his career he appeared in 13 post-season games. Long over due for recognition Jensen remains a huge fan favorite for many Dolphins fans.
