No. 3: Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern

If one player scares me more than any player in the 2021 NFL Draft, it is offensive lineman Rashawn Slater. The former Northwestern lineman does not really have a set position in the NFL, which scares me quite a bit and is why I call him an offensive lineman.

A lot of people feel he can play and succeed at tackle in the NFL, but after his arm length was officially 33 inches (via NFL.com), which is below average for an offensive tackle in the NFL, I have some major concerns.

There has been some crazy talk that Slater is better than the former Oregon Ducks offensive tackle Penei Sewell, and that idea has started to scare me more. There is a chance that Sewell goes at No. 4 to the Atlanta Falcons or No. 5 to the Cincinnati Bengals. If that happens, and Miami was targeting an offensive lineman early, I hope that does not make them reach for Slater.

I think Slater should have a solid career at guard in the NFL, but I am not taking a guard that early in the NFL Draft. Slater isn’t even close to Indianapolis Colts’ star guard Quenton Nelson, so taking him with the sixth overall pick would be insane.

If you are looking at him solely as a tackle, I think guys like Christian Darrisaw, Teven Jenkins, Samuel Cosmi, and Jaylen Mayfield are better or just as good. And you can likely get one of those guys at pick 18 or even later in the first round.

Miami needs to avoid Slater at all costs, especially at pick No. 6.
