I have to admit being apprehensive about making this prediction after getting it right last season with the first overall pick. It was a comprehensive piece where that part was edited out, so all I have is my word.

Some news broke today with the trade of LG Ereck Flowers and this will be influencing my selection. We will circle back to this.

Let us start with the first pick at six. I will be assuming no trades take place just to keep it simple. However if Kyle Pitts and Ja’Marr Chase are both off the board that would mean some quarterbacks are still there along with an interest to trade for said players from other teams. Two factors probably have to take place, the teams have to be not too far down the draft and the compensation has to be worth the move.

These same two factors have to work for a team to move ahead of the Miami Dolphins at six overall to land the coveted QB’s. In this scenario, none of this is taking place, no trades could be ironed out. Pitts and Chase are both gone, and it is time to pick at six.

You might be thinking that OT Penei Sewell comes into play now, with the Flowers trade, but that is not the case. The focus shifts to the Alabama wide receivers and unlike a trend to place Jaylen Waddle over DeVonta Smith, I will not be doing so, how well he did in the College Football Playoff national championship game, still stands out. They won 52-24 over Ohio State.

More from Dolphins Draft

DeVonta Smith had 12 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns, just in the first half alone. He had to leave due to an injured finger, but still set records with this performance. Just imagine what would have taken place had he played the whole game. So pick number six is DeVonta Smith

Next is pick eighteen, as I said before no trades for this mock-up. However there has been trades made by the Miami Dolphins during the draft in recent years and it should not be discounted.

Circling back to the LG Ereck Flowers trade influencing my selection. This is probably overthinking on my part, but I can see recently signed D.J. Fluker taking over that spot and opening up some nice running lanes for a running back. That running back would be Najee Harris.

Let’s not forget Harris is adapt at pass-catching as well, having a 26 yard TD pass in that same national championship game mentioned above. Pick number eighteen is Najee Harris.

This is my prediction and in a way I’m doing it as to not be setup for a let down. Of course I want Pitts at six. My next to last story was hoping that five quarterbacks get taken off the board first paving the way for that to take place.

At any rate this appears to an exciting draft we haven’t seen for awhile. Grab your popcorn, settle in Thursday night and hope for the best outcome.
