The Dolphins will shift their focus to the playoffs and the Steelers less than a week after their big loss to the Patriots at home. Despite scoring just 14 points in the game, it was an overall good day in terms of fantasy for some of Miami’s key players.

By simply looking at the scoreboard it would appear that the Patriots manhandled the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in a lopsided 35-14 outcome. While New England clearly looked like the superior team, Miami made the game closer than it appeared. A Damien Williams turnover in the 4th quarter allowed the game to get out of hand, and give the Patriots the decisive victory.

More from Dolphins Fantasy Football

The Patriots give up a league best 15.6 points per game so it’s not surprising that Miami only managed 14 points on the afternoon. Despite the low scoring output, the Dolphins offense did move the ball well against New England’s tough defense. The positive plays made for a pretty good day at least for fantasy football numbers. Here’s a recap of how the Dolphins did individually in the regular season finale.

Stud of the Game – Jarvis Landry

A reoccurring trend that I and many other Dolphins fans hate to see is how well Landry does in losing efforts. He was clearly Miami’s best player when the team was 1-4, and he was again on Sunday. Landry finished Sunday’s game with nine receptions on 12 targets for 76 yards and a touchdown.

The 12 targets were the most Landry has seen since Week 13 in Baltimore (another lopsided loss). The touchdown score was Miami’s first of the day after they fell behind 20-0 in the first half. It was just his 4th touchdown of the season. We would love to see Landry’s production boom in a winning outcome, and that’s very possible this coming week against the Steelers secondary.

Dud of the Game – DeVante Parker

In his previous two meetings against the Patriots, DeVante Parker amassed 106 receiving yards in each game. It looks as though New England head coach Bill Belichick and DC Matt Patricia took notice and were not about to let it happen for a third time. Parker was held in check for the most part, recording five receptions for 45 yards with zero touchdowns. It wasn’t a horrific game for Parker, but a far cry from what he accomplished in the previous two meetings. If Miami can get past Pittsburgh this week, he’ll get his chance for redemption in the divisional round.

Surprise of the Game – Kenny Stills

It’s no surprise that Kenny Stills found the end zone yet again this week. He has now scored in four consecutive games, and five of the last six. His nine touchdowns on the year leads all Dolphins receivers. What was surprising is his added involvement in the offense.

We’re normally used to watching Stills catch a 50-yard bomb for a score, and he’s seemingly done for the day. However, Miami looked to get Stills more involved on Sunday. Stills finished the game with 41 yards receiving on four receptions. It felt like he was even more involved than that. Look for Stills to have another big game against Pittsburgh.

Other Notables

Matt Moore

Moore had his highest completion percentage (70.6) of his three starts this year, but finished with his lowest yards total (205) and average (6.03). The good news is that it was the third straight game in which Moore threw for multiple touchdowns. Hopefully, that trend will continue against Pittsburgh. Moore did throw an interception in the game, but the loss cannot be thrown on the shoulders of Moore. He’s done everything the coaching staff and players have come to expect, and often times has looked even better than Ryan Tannehill. Rumors are swirling that Tannehill will practice this week, but expect Moore to get the start until further notice.

Week 17 Fantasy Points: 18.20

Jay Ajayi

After another 200-yard performance against Buffalo last week, expectations were exceedingly lower against New England. Those low expectations were accurate in that New England held Ajayi to just 3.7 yards per carry. In preparation for the playoffs, Ajayi also saw just half of the rushing attempts against the Patriots than he did against Buffalo. He finished the game with 59 yards rushing on 16 carries. Also, he reeled in three receptions for 20 yards.

Ajayi was banged up heading into the regular season finale, and still is really, although he’s likely to tell you that he’s just fine. Miami will need their power running back badly against Pittsburgh. The Dolphins Week 6 matchup against the Steelers was Ajayi’s first 200-yard rushing game this season, and also the start of Miami’s strong finish to get into the playoffs.
