While Dan Marino holds the passing records in every category including him is paramount to remind us all just how far Ryan Tannehill is from making a dent into those season records. On the plus side, the stats are per season and not career so one great season could eventually erase the marks set by the current holders.

We may as well knock Dan Marino out right away. Holding the two biggest records in team history will be hard to beat for any quarterback. Marino holds the single season record for passing yards with 5,084 set in 1984. Marino would win the AP AFC MVP award in 1984 and advance to the Super Bowl, a loss to San Francisco. In the course of the 84 season, Marino would not only set records for yards but also in touchdowns. Marino threw for 48 touchdowns in the season, a then NFL record.
Marino holds the top eight single season passing records for the Miami Dolphins. Not surprising as six of his seasons posted 4,000 plus yardage. Ryan Tannehill posted his first 4,000 yard season in 2014 for the seventh best in franchise history. He came just under 100 yards of moving into the sixth spot. The next closest not named Marino or Tannehill is Chad Pennington who in 2008 threw for 3,653.
Passing touchdowns are no different in the Dolphins record books. Marino holds the top five single season touchdown passes spot with Tannehill taking over the sixth spot last season when he threw 27 touchdown passes. Bob Griese takes up the 13th and 14th spots on the teams all time list.
